The best thing is that Nielsen pled out. As an ex-cop, he would know the SEC and DOJ already had a full case against him, so denial or delays would only have made the government press more charges. That's my guess,

He plead out, he's a non violent offender with no criminal history and he agreed to pay back all restitution. I'm sure that is why he got the lighter prison time and recommended to FCI Lompoc so his family could visit. Lompoc is no picnic but I'm sure he qualifies for the "Camp" portion of the prison which would be the best you could ask for. I'm not sure if the SEC could jump in here and fine him more but as it stands he's got 50K in fines and has to pay back everything (He made like 137K from his fraud).

Kind of also goes directly to your point about Schena's behavior when confronted with his actions, and your speculation about what his sentencing / conditions will look like.

Schena is the one that's looking at the worst of the punishment. Due to the counts and the penalties I don't think he will qualify for a "Camp" or even a low security. He's looking at lots of time per his counts. He's taking no responsibility, and he was the leader of the conspiracies. That could add up to a lot of time in an awful place.
